Keyspan US-4A 4-Port USB Server (12 Mbps)

Listprice:
$139.99

Price:
$97.88
You Save: $42.11
Description:
Connect USB devices to a PC or Mac via a wired or wireless LAN. Much like a print server, this USB Server enables attached USB devices to be used and shared by client PCs on a LAN (Local Area Network). In addition to printers, the USB Server supports other USB devices such as hard drives, scanners and more..

Reviews:
love/hate this productThis product has produced plenty of hassles for me, but ultimately it (usually) gets the job done.

Suggestions for use with Vista (and even some XP machines): to avoid the Blue Screen of Death on my HP computer running Vista, I had to drop back from the latest version (2.0.2) to the previous version (1.3.4) of the Server software (listed on [...] as a version for Windows 2000) and the Firmware. This cleared up my Blue Screen problem. Over the years I have adopted a policy concerning device drivers... if it ain't broke, don't fix it. When I updated one of our Dell XP computers to the 2.0.2 version (and updated the firmware), it also got blue screens until I dropped back.

As others have mentioned, the US-4A requires an occasional reboot, about as often as our LinkSys router does. Most often after rebooting the US-4A, we have to press the reset button to make it drop back to the 1.3.4 version of firmware.

Reviews:
Works great for meI am an IT professional as other reviewers and I have had no problems with these since I installed them. The initial setup procedure was a little odd to me since I have never used powerline devices but once set up, I have had no problems with them. Even though my house has cat6 wiring, there are some walls and rooms without ethernet jacks. This has been a great alternative to 802.11G wifi. I have a voip phone (ciso 7975), pc and wifi access point (for laptops) connected to the unit and no network hicups, latency, etc. I'm planning on getting another set (why do they only come in pairs?).

Reviews:
Works wellThese RJ Crimpers do the job as expected and have a fairly solid feel to them. The ratcheting mechanism could be a little better, but for the price it does just fine. If you're a professional, you will probably want the Ideal or similar brand of crimpers for the hundreds or more of connectors you'll do a week. For all you DIY guys who will use them a few times a year, they are great and will do fine for your home networking projects. I never use the strippers or cutters on the tool as they never seem to do that great a job without more effort than a razor knife and wire cutters, but that is the same with all other brands of the same tool across the board.

Reviews:
Not for gamingPositives:
1. Respectable price in comparison to similar devices.
2. Extension cord for improving signal.
3. Easy to install.

Negatives:
1. Poor signal consistency. Used on a PC that previously had a Belkin PCI card that did not spike. Once this card was installed, ping times to Google or any other destination spiked to 2000ms a few times a minute - a significant problem if you game online.
2. Large size (two fingers wide, the length of a credit card, and about 1/4' to 1/2' thick).

All in all, a usable device for every day computing and the average user, but certainly not a device for demanding users.

Reviews:
Fantastic so far!We had been using the older Netgear POE devices (XE102,103,and 104)along with a NetgearWGR614 router successfully for several years. We had DSL supplying internet (approx 1 Mbs) to three computers, a printer and an Xbox in three separate rooms in our two story house. We now have Comcast(approx 20 Mbs)suppplying internet to three Dell computers, an iMac, two printers, a Cisco business router, a voip phone, and a Roku in four different rooms using these Linksys adapters. The older Netgear adapters with their lower speeds of 14 and 85 were not capable of handling all that we were asking of them. Any time a hair dryer or a kitchen appliance with a motor was turned on (ie a hand blender, hotair popper, or mixer)it would cause a drop or interference with the computer equipment in any other room of our house connected through one of the Netgear boxes. (We have no POE adapters in our kitchen and the cable modem and router is in an upstairs bedroom.) Additionally, the new iMac (the fastest computer in our house)when connected to the XE104 was only downloading at approx 10 Mbs. With the new Linksys adapter it downloads at the same speed as if it was attached directly to the router, the full 20 we receive from Comcast. The Roku was previously connecting wirelessly or with an XE102 and was not capable of streaming full HD if any other computer was in use. With the new Linksys adapters in four rooms, we can simultaneously have someone playing WOW on a computer in the dining room, someone streaming Netflix in full HD in the living room, someone talking on a voip phone upstairs and turn on the hotair popper with no interference whatsoever. These adapters are pricey (we have two complete sets)but they are well worth the cost for our family. I chose the Linksys POE adapters over the newer Netgear models (or any other brand)for several reasons, however, the primary reason is that I preferred the plug and cord design over the box attached to the wall. POE adapters (like routers)get quite warm and the design of the Linksys allows for better cooling (particularly if the outlet is behind a large piece of furniture) as well as easier attachment of ethernet cables. The other main reason I chose the Linksys models is that they had the fewest negative reviews.

Deborah TVery impressed with the product.
It truly is a 'plug and play' installation.
I have had the NetGear ethernet adapter kit for about 30 days and have been connected without interruption.
Highly recommend this for anyone that does not want the expense of wiring another pc or the inconvenience of an ethernet cable running through out the house.
