Computer networking hardware switches for vlans!
From networking switch and usb switch to dvi switchInspecting data packets?
Computer networking hardware switches are capable of inspecting data packets as they are received from the vlans, determining the source and destination device of that packet, and forwarding it appropriately.
By delivering each message only to the connected device it was intended for, a computer networking hardware switch conserves network bandwidth and offers generally better performance than a hub.
There are many kinds of switches, not all suited for vlans. Different switches can be: HDMI, speaker, AV, KVM and usb switch, dvi switch, just to mention a few.
The most well known, is probably the Computer networking hardware switch for vlans and other computer networks.

D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch.

Unmanaged Gigabit Switch, 5-Port 10/100/1000Mbps.
Reviews:
Works greatI bought this switch to connect our TV, PS3 (and 2 other future products). I have 2 other D-Link 8 port gigabit switches which replaced Linksys and Netgear switches/routers. I was never a huge D-Link fan until now. My only complaint is the switch 'feels' cheap because it is extremely light and made of plastic, compare that to the Netgear blue metal switches which just feel extremely solid (but trust me they aren't I had to replace the Netgear with the D-link) :)
If you need a reliable gigabit switch at a reasonable cost then get this D-Link, if you need more ports get the 8-port D-Link.

Works just fineI bought this a week ago, and it couldn't have been easier to install... with one exception. My keyboard was PS2 not USB, so I had to go get an adapter. Should have bought one via amazon, but couldn't wait again - so went to local store. The entire things works fine. Hot key is great but have the buttons on the device as well if I need to switch manually (perhaps one of my laptops forgot to share its screen). The transfer could be quicker, but for this price, I will be just fine with it. Thanks Trendnet.

Works great! We ordered this item when we got a new Sony Blu-ray player. We already have a Moxi DVR which has to be connected to the internet so when we got the blu-ray player which has Netflix, BD Live and several other features that need internet connection we got the Trendnet 5-port ethernet switch so we could hook up both devices and have several ports still left for use if we add anything else. We have had the Trendnet for about a month and it works great! Arrived quick, hook up was very easy, excellent price compared to most others. It is plastic, but good thick plastic. It is bright blue, be better if it was black, but I have it mounted on the back of the TV so no one sees it anyway. I recommend it for quality and price.

PerfectThis switch works fine and does what it's supposed to do. The one I received is all black, and there is another listing for it on Amazon.
I don't get the negatives I've read here. Someone said it gets hot. Well, where are you keeping it? It's a simple little digital switch that doesn't create any heat...maybe a slight watmth.
Another said something about it being cheap, plastic junk. It's actually a very good quality piece of equipment at a very good price. I guess if it's not a huge, heavy, expensive thing they perceive it as being cheap.
There was also a complaint about cutomer service. I'll admit I have not had to call Linksys cutomer service for years, but the 2 or 3 times I have, they are the best. Imagine, actually getting a human person on the phone and walking you through everything you need.
Bottom line: Qulity product. Good price. I wish I needed more of these little things...there almost fun to buy and plug all your gadgets in.
And oh yeah, very easy and simple 'plug and play' installation.
Ok. For those that insist that nothing is perfect, my only design change would be to eliminate some of the indicator lighting on the front. There are about 15 little lights on there. My 'office' area already looked like Christmas at night with all of the LEDs shining off of everything from my computer to the phone to the clock and everything else. Now there are many more colorful lights.

D-Link DGS-2208 8-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch.

Unmanaged Gigabit Switch, 8-Port 10/100/1000Mbps.
Reviews:
Just Works!Great and simple product. It was plug and play, and reduced my energy consumption from 6 watts to 2 watts. That's around 52KwH per year, and in California, where the above baseline power rate can range between $.30 to $.60/KwH, it quickly pays for itself.

NETGEAR GS108 ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch.

Netgear Giga Switch 8Pt Metal.
Reviews:
What a difference!I recently had a big workstation crash that forced me to revisit my home network after 10 years. One of the additions was a Western Digital ShareSpace 4 TB 4-Bay Gigabit Ethernet Network Attached Storage with RAID 5 - WDA4NC40000N. When I plugged in the array and started moving files back onto my NAS, I found that things were going too slow. The new NAS has gigabit ethernet. So I started looking around. Well, I quickly figured out that my home routers and switches were way way out of date. I had a 10MBP switch and a 10/100MBPS fast switch and a 10/100 routher: wow slow stuff.
So I went on Amazon and ordered two of these netgear Gigabit switches and a Linksys by Cisco WRT320N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router.
Well, in less than 20 minutes literally I now have a network that screams!!! I'm getting about 350MBPS so things are nice nice.
I'm really glad that I've upgraded my network equipment.
On these switches:
PROS
-metal construction very solid
-cool to touch even when running
-autocrossover - so you don't have to have special cables to link switches or lose ports to uplink use
-very durable (one of my fast switches was a netgear and it's been going strong for 10 years alone in my basement!!)
CONS
-none (other than technology does age so expect to have to replace in 5 to 10 years with the next big advance)
