Wireless Routers!

I need a cheap wireless router!
One of the fastest standards today for an ip router, is the wireless n router standard.

With an ip router u can connect ur home computer network to the surrounding world or the internet.
It is possible to share the router ip address and Internet connection with a cheap wireless router. The router which can be a wireless n router, this will provide more speed, can be installed between the modem and the internal network.

Even a cheap wireless router, can function as an ip router with its own router ip address, but u get a little more stability for just a little more.

Buying a cheap wireless router too cheap, can be a hazzle, malfunctioning after only a short time of use. It is therefore recommended to go one step up in price, and get a better ip router(wireless n router?) which is still a good cheap wireless router for the money.

Go wireless!

Reviews:
Expensive, but it works perfectlyI used this to replace an older round AirPort. The upgrade install program worked perfectly, didn't lose a single setting. Works much better than the older model - the old one used to drop connections when the microwave oven was on - this one just keeps going regardless. Has better range than the old one.

In short, it took five minutes to install and it has been up and running for over a month since. It's probably $100 more than a Linksys or D-Link or other wireless routers but you will not get those setup as quickly as this one.

Great idea, poor performancePerhaps it was the location of this device in my home that presented issues, but it never worked. I increased my band width of internet, and tried several changes to our router, but this just wouldn't stream movies for us.

Received two DIR-655 DOAI ordered the DIR-655 based on the positive reviews it received on Amazon. I have received two units from Amazon and both have been dead on arrival. I spent about 20 minutes on each unit working with D-Link tech support. I found it interesting that the two technicians tried totally different solutions. Regardless, they could not get a TCPIP Ping to work so they declared my units defective. This was my first and last D-Link purchase. Back to Linksys.

Reviews:
5 weeks old and DEAD, KAPUT, MUERTE!!!!!!We had rated it at about a four prior to today. The reason why we only would have given four stars is that they shipped it out without the requisite firmware. My computer guru( #3 son) had to update the firmware a couple of times, the last time last night. This morning, no Internet, just a buzzing router with no lights flashing! So, since we are just under the wire w/ Amazon, we're going to send it back and get a replacement, hopefully it will not behave the same way. There should have been no problems, but we did have 12 wireless devices running on it. That's why we got it, so it would handle our heavy wireless use.

Will update with info on replacement...

Reviews:
Nothing but problemsI am a big fan of Cisco products and had several previous versions of the Linksys router. However, the 160N is substandard.

My computer is approximately 10 feet away from my 160N, and it loses signal at least once an hour. At the same time, my computer is able to see all of the other wireless routers in my neighborhood.

However, my 160N died today. No more wireless signal - and it's only been 2 months since I bought it. For the first time in years, I am looking at an altnernative that is not Cisco.

Reviews:
Hardware is good; software -- not so muchThe vendor-supplied software wasn't as functional as I'd like; limited use of the available storage space, reduced configuration and so on.

The ease of installing the dd-wrt software was ridiculously easy. The only problem relates to the design of the 'reset' button. The third-party software installation requires extended (90 seconds!) pressing-time on the reset button -- two or three times during the process. The button is difficult to hold for that length of time.

But that's probably a good thing, because it means the settings don't easily get wiped by accident.

The other problem I had was with one of the antenna mounts -- the post the antenna screws-down on, that exits the body of the device: One was loose, and not affixed well. It floated in a way that didn't make me comfortable. A drop or two of cyanoacrylate glue ('Super Glue') easily fixed it, but that's not something I think I would need to do right-out-of-the-box. Points off for that.

One design suggestion: I'd like to see mounting holes on the bottom so one could easily wall-mount this device. As it is, the footprint takes up usable space on my desk.

Good wireless router, though. I like it.

Linksys by Cisco WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router

Listprice:
$199.99

Description:
Linksys Ultra RangePlus, Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one box. First, there's the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. We've also included a Storage Link that lets you easily add gigabytes of storage space onto your network using readily available USB 2.0 hard drives -- or plug in a USB flash disk for a convenient way to access your portable data files. The built-in Media Server streams music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP compatible media adapter. And you can get to your files from anywhere in the world through the Internet. The Access Point built into the Router uses a dual-band version of the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band, Wireless-N's 'Multiple In, Multiple Out' (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce 'dead spots' in the wireless coverage area. The robust signals travel farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G..

Linksys WRT 610N RouterThe Route was easy to install. It was a replacement for the Linksys WRT 300N. I let the Network Magic Software do some of the work and I fine tuned the rest. I get more range on this WRT 600N than I did the WRT 300N.
